The “black bee” has returned to Poland

The violet rattle, also known as the “black bee,” has reappeared in areas of Poland. The species has not been recorded in our country’s territories for 70 years, but has recently started to appear again in our country.

The first information on „black beesoł” appeared in 2005. Reports came from Polesie National Park. These insects have also been spotted in the Bieszczady Mountains, the Malopolska Highlands. 10 years poLater, the purple Zadrzechnia was already seen in Wroclaw, Olawa or Miechow.

Purple rattlesnake (Xylocopa violacea) is called „black bee” Due to its black coloration, although its wings are purple. These are the largest bees that can be found in Poland. The female’s body length can reach up to 2.8 centimeters. Its size may give it a menacing appearance, but it is no more dangerous than other beesoł. Of course, it can sting, but it is not a particularly aggressive speciesow.

„Black bees” Were under strict species protection in Poland until 2014. After 2014 they are under partial protection.

As reported by the Nature and Man Association, last year 26 new sites of the purple thatch were found. This is a clear sign that the population of these insectsoin Poland is beginning to recover.
